Girinagar (Kannada:ಗಿರಿನಗರ) (formerly known as Writer's Colony) is a residential area in South West Bangalore, very close to Mysore Road. It is surrounded by Srinagar, Byatarayanapura, Hosakerehalli, Veerabhadranagar, Srinivasanagar and Banashankari 3rd Stage.

- From Majestic Bus Stand and City Railway Station, come via Cottonpet, K.R. Market, Sirsi Circle, Timberyard Layout, Avalahalli and reach Girinagar.
- From HAL Airport, come via Domlur, Victoria Layout, Richmond Circle, Lalbagh, Basavanagudi, Hanumanthanagar, Mysore Bank Colony and reach Girinagar.
- From Bengaluru International Airport, come via NH7, Yelahanka Air Force Station, Jakkur Flying Club, Hebbal, Outer Ring Road (till BEL Circle), Mathikere, Yeshwanthapur, Government Soap Factory, Chord Road, Magadi Road Tolgate, Vijayanagar, Deepanjali Nagar and reach Girinagar.

- Girinagar is divided into 4 phases, with the 2nd phase being the largest. It also subsumes areas such as Avalahalli BDA Layout, Avalahalli Village, Vishwabharati Housing Co-Op Society Layout, Hosakerehalli Layout, Ganapathi Nagar, Muneshwara Block and Nagendra Block.
- It is one of the quietest areas in Bangalore.
- Girinagar has 2 big parks - the Vivekananda Park having a statue of Swami Vivekananda at the centre and the BDA Park in Avalahalli Layout.
- Girinagar has a yoga school Yogashri and a Vedic school Veda Paatshala.
- Samskrita Bharathi's Karnataka headquarters, Aksharam, is located in this area, next to Sri Raghavendra Mutt. Regular Samskritam (Samskrit) Classes are conducted here.
- Girinagar is famous for its hill, or Eeranna Gutte or Hirannaya Gudda. One can see the whole of Bangalore city from this hill and also witness the sunrise and sunset. There is a temple on the top of this hill.
- NCERT state office is also located in the vicinity.
- Gandhi Bazaar is very close by (about 3km).
