Review
They're from Spain instead of the U.K. or the States, but Gallygows' sophomore album proves that the influence of the Beatles transcends all borders. With the Posies' Jon Auer (who knows more than a little about channeling the influence of John, Paul, George, and Ringo) overseeing things in the producer's chair, the Barcelona quartet, led by Eduardo and Alberto Hernandez, offers a beguilingly hook-filled outing that nods to the Fabs on several tracks, including the energetic "Live at Budokan," a charming impersonation of the early Beatles. If the Hernandez brothers' accents on the opening "Tone Generator" throw you for a moment, the ringing guitars and sugary melody put the song squarely in the universal pop tradition (even though the unnecessary freak-out coda doesn't). Most of the rest of Give It to Her is also appealing, drawing occasionally from '70s soft rock and Bacharach, and staying on the right side of homage. Lyrically, things get no more complicated than pleas to "be your love goalkeeper" and celebrations of a "Roller Disco Combo," keeping the focus where it should be: on the sweet and summery tunes. ~ Dan LeRoy, All Music GuideTracks
