The Peacock Flower (Abyssinian gladiolus) is a gaudy tropical shrub (or tree) that is native to Madagascar. It has been widely planted in tropical regions. When its flowers bloom they are scarlet and occasionally orange. Scientists place this plant in the genus Poinciana.
