Review

Glam Greats: 20 Seventies Stompers is about as good an introduction to glam rock as you could hope for. The 20 tracks are a rip-roaring blast through the most exciting sound of the decade. Due to rights issues, there are a couple of important artists omitted (Gary Glitter and David Bowie come to mind), but there is no lack of high-wattage star power with rocking appearances by T. Rex ("Telegram Sam," "Children of the Revolution"), the Bay City Rollers ("Shang-A-Lang"), the Sweet ("Blockbuster!," "Little Willy"), and Slade ("Mama Weer All Crazee Now"). The collection also makes room for poppier entries, with sugar-sweet confections by the Rubettes ("Sugar Baby Love"), Showaddywaddy ("Hey Rock and Roll"), and Roy Wood's Wizzard ("Angel Fingers [A Teen Ballad]"). The packaging rates highly too, with excellent photos of Gerry Shephard's (the Glitter Band) glittery star-shaped guitar and liner notes penned by Shephard himself. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
