Description
Leaves pinnately lobed, forming a basal rosette. The flowers are solitary, yellow or red, with 2 sepals and 4 petals.

How to Grow
Sow seeds outdoors in fall where winters are mild, or as soon as the ground can be worked elsewhere. The species below prefer cool weather.

Glaucium corniculatum
Horned Poppy . To 18 in. (45 cm) high. Flowering stalk usually shorter than the leaves. Flowers 2 in. (5 cm) wide, orange to red, with a black spot at the base of the petals. Europe and sw. Asia. Does not transplant well. Also sold as G. grandiflorum . Hardy annual.

Glaucium flavum
Sea Poppy ; Horned Poppy . Branching, 2-3 ft. (60-90 cm) high. Flowers solitary, long-stalked, orange-yellow, to 2 in. (5 cm) wide. Stamens numerous. Mediterranean region; naturalized in e. North America. Biennial grown as a hardy annual.

Glaucium (Horned Poppy) is a genus of about 25 species of annual, biennial or perennial herbaceous flowering plants in the family Papaveraceae, native to Europe, north Africa, and southwest and central Asia. The species commonly occur in saline habitats, including coasts and salt pans.
