Biography

Glenn Milchem became the drummer for Canadian folk/country rockers Blue Rodeo in December of 1991, replacing Cleave Anderson. In 2001, he released his solo debut, Turning Blue -- which he produced, wrote, and primarily played on -- under the moniker the Swallows. The effort is a harder-edged, more indie rock album than fans might expect from a member of Blue Rodeo.

In the early '80s, Milchem played with several bands on the Queen Street circuit in Toronto. In 1986, he released an independent cassette called Acting Natural. The effort was not well received, discouraging him from releasing his own work for several years. In 1988, he became the drummer for Andrew Cash (who would later form the Cash Brothers with his brother Peter of the Skydiggers) and played on Cash's sophomore major-label effort, Boomtown. He also played with artists such as Colin Linden, Malcolm Burn, Andy Curran, and Change of Heart. In 1991, he got a call from Jim Cuddy to audition for Blue Rodeo. Milchem recorded the Lost Together album with the group and soon was a full-fledged member. ~ Erik Hage, All Music Guide
