A genus of bloodsucking dipterous flies comprising the tsetse flies of tropical and subtropical Africa; they serve as vectors of the pathogenic trypanosomes that cause various forms of African trypanosomiasis.

 
 

A genus of biting flies in the family Glossinidae. It includes the tsetse flies, which serve as vectors of trypanosomes causing various forms of trypanosomiasis in humans and animals. Listed species of tsetse flies are G. brevipalpis, G. fusca (forest tsetse), G. longipalpis, G. morsitans (savannah tsetse), G. pallidipes, G. palpalis (riverine tsetse), G. tachinoides.
