GMAC Mortgage is one of the largest residential mortgage servicing companies in the US. The company offers consumers purchasing and refinancing, FHA loans, and flexible down payment options. Its ditech.com arm provides online mortgage brokerage services. GMAC Mortgage is part of the Residential Capital (ResCap) mortgage arm of Ally Financial, the financing arm of General Motors. The US government owns a majority of Ally Financial after providing the group with a series of financial bailouts. GMAC Mortgage was created in 1985 when Ally Financial (then GMAC) acquired mortgage operations of Colonial Mortgage Service and Norwest Mortgage.
