GMAC-RFC is a mortgage asset management company. Formerly one of the UK's larger residential mortgage lenders, GMAC-RFC offered mainstream, non-conforming, self-certification, and buy-to-let financing to individuals. GMAC-RFC stopped writing mortgages for new customers in 2008 as a result of the economic and housing downturn. The company now manages a portfolio worth some £16 billion of mortgage assets. Launched in 1998, GMAC-RFC is a subsidiary of Residential Capital Corporation (ResCap), which is part of GMAC, the financing arm of carmaker General Motors.
