Godefrit Hagen

Hagen, Godefrit a citizen of Cologne, who in 1270 wrote in the regional dialect a Chronik der Stadt Köln (Boech van der stede van Coelne). In rhyming couplets amounting to some 6, 000 lines it traces the history of the city from its Christian conversion to the writer's own time, with special concentration on the years 1250-70, and offers an interesting insight into the political life and intrigues of a medieval city.
