Game Description
During ancient times giants rebelled against the power of the elders. Many of the elders were killed and their followers believed that the Age of the Elders was coming to an end. However, a brave warrior swore to put an end to the rebellion. He kept his word and was able to do so thanks to the Golden Axe, a weapon given to him by Thor's spirit of thunder. Many years after the rebellion came to an end most had already forgotten about it and moved on with their lives. Unfortunately for the people there was one giant who remembered it,The primary country was that of Firewood, a country ruled by a family who mastered the powers of the nine crystals. Since the nine crystals have the ability to ward off evil the people of the country of Firewood believed they were safe.
Firewood's king was betrayed by one of his high-ranking ministers who sold the crystals to
Golden Axe Warrior is set up similar to the game The Legend of Zelda. From a side view players move from screen to screen while fighting monsters, exploring dungeons, and visiting towns. At towns players can purchase items such as swords, shields, armor,or magic. Money comes in the form of horns which can be gained by slaying monsters. Finding horns or other items is the only thing gained by slaying monsters. Experience is not gained, instead the character's base health is increased at particular points in the game.
Roots & Influences
Golden Axe Warrior borrows a lot of gameplay features found in Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda, a game released in 1986 for the NES. Both games have single screens that, instead of scrolling, wait for the character to move off-screen before changing. Also, the health system is similar as both games use a heart system that only increases at particular points during the adventure.The storyline of Golden Axe Warrior is built around that of the action game Golden Axe.
