Golden Gaytime (Cookie Crumble in New Zealand) is an iconic ice-cream created by Nick Marland from Streets confectionery company in Australia. It is a toffee and vanilla ice-cream dipped in chocolate and wrapped in honeycomb biscuits, on a wooden stick.
Its name has survived intact despite the possible homosexual connotations in modern decades.[1] The company appears to play up the camp name with the boxes holding the words "4 chances to have a gay time".[2] The dilemma posed by the name is highlighted in The Bedroom Philosopher song, "Golden Gaytime".
According to Greenpeace New Zealand, Goodman Fielder are starting to remove genetically engineered ingredients from the Gaytime to make it more environmentally friendly.[3]
