Goon does sound remarkably similar to Aphex Twin material: some veritably cheesy synth-work over a simple, infectious melody, an occasional vocal reminiscent of the trippy leanings of the Incredible String Band, and, over-reaching everything, an absurdist sense of humor. Though the vocal track becomes a bit tedious, the instrumental offerings are more than up to snuff actually, including several songs akin to Aphex's Selected Ambient Works or work by Cylob ("The Owl, Pussycat," "Clapping Song") and a few that detour the ambient vibe into intriguing hip-hop territory, such as "Metal Buffalo." With music this enjoyable, it doesn't really matter who is doing the recording ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
