The Gordon Divinity School was a divinity school established in 1889.
It was originally founded by Adoniram Judson Gordon. Gordon said he
established the school out of a desire to equip "men and women in practical religious work...and to furnish them with a
thoroughly biblical training."[citation needed] Assisting him was James M.
Gray.
Gordon called the school the Boston Bible and Missionary Training School. It was based in the basement of the Clarendon Street
Church, a Baptist church in Boston,
Massachusetts, and shared Gordon's concern for missions abroad and in New England urban centers. Upon his death, the institution was given his name, and the
Gordon Divinity School eventually moved to Boston's North Shore community of Wenham.
In 1969, the school merged with the Conwell School of Theology to become Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Gordon College (Massachusetts) in Wenham now exists as an entity
separate from and unassociated with the seminary and divinity
school.
