1. The name of a place and a region in Judah (Josh 11:16) in the southern part of the hill country (Josh 15:51). Not identified.
2. A region in Egypt, rich in pasture, where the Children of Israel settled (Gen 46:34), "the best of the land" (Gen 47:6, 11). The Septuagint identifies Goshen with Pithom, which is identified today with Tell er-Ratabeh in Wadi Thumeilat. The Bible also refers to the land of Goshen as the "land of Rameses" (Gen 47:11), which was the later name for Zoan (Tanis), to the north. Egyptian sources also mention the granting of grazing rights in the region of Pithom.
