Goya Foods Inc. is a famous brand of foods sold in many Latin American countries and the United States, with company headquarters in Secaucus, New Jersey. While the product line remains heavily influenced by its origins in traditional "authentic Spanish cuisine", Goya first branched out into Puerto Rican and Cuban cuisine and in the early '90s it began to produce Mexican and South and Central American foods. It has become the largest Hispanic-owned food business and its owners, the Unanue family, are the second richest Hispanic family in the United States with a net worth of $750 million.[1] Goya was founded in 1936 by Prudencio Unanue Ortiz (1886-1976) and Carolina Casal Unanue (1890-1984), two Spanish immigrants.[2][3]

Goya's national sponsorships include the National Council of La Raza, the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the National Hispana Leadership Institute. Goya is also the first Hispanic company to be exhibited at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

In 1992, Goya began to focus promotion efforts towards a mainstream and culinary market, in a public relations effort led by Karen Sperling who helped the company launch a series of cookbooks, recipes and new products including prepared frozen dinners and seasoned rice mixes.[4]
