mechanics. Symbols gf, g-f, pond. (Metric) The force represented by 1 gram of mass subject to standard gravity, i.e.
1 g-f = 1 g × 980.665 cm·s-2 = 980.665 dyn = 9.806 65 mN.This was a base unit of the gravitational system created from the normal c.g.s. system (in which the gram is mass and the dyne the unit of force).
