Biography

The alternative CCM group Grammatrain comprised singer/guitarist Pete Stewart, bassist Dalton Roraback and his drummer brother Paul. Formed in Seattle, in 1994 the trio self-released their eponymous debut LP, grabbing the attention of ForeFront Records label exec Eddie DeGarmo, who immediately signed Grammatrain to release their 1995 sophomore effort Lonely House. The record became a major hit on Christian radio outlets, launching the hits "Believe," "She Don't Know" and "Execution" while also notching a Dove Award nomination for Best Modern Rock/Alternative Album. Flying followed in 1997. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Grammatrain is a post-grunge rock band from Seattle, Washington from the mid 1990s. Their sound was heavily influenced by bands such as Soundgarden, Nirvana, Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Led Zeppelin, yet it was still distinctive in its own right, and certainly unique among bands marketed to Christians.[citation needed]

The band recorded a self-titled demo tape in 1994, and CD containing mostly live acoustic numbers in 1995. After signing with Christian label Forefront Records, they quickly followed with their first studio album, Lonely House. Their second full length album, Flying, came in 1997. Around the same time, guitarist/vocalist Pete Stewart was contributing guitar tracks to dc Talk's Supernatural album. As touring was taking its toll on the lives of the band members, they broke up following their final live performance on 12/7/1998 in Germany, documented on the album aptly titled, Live 120798.

Following the breakup of the band, Stewart released a self-titled solo album, and produced Michael Tait's band Tait, performing on their first album. He also produced four tracks on the first album for TobyMac. After this, he seemed to disappear for a while, resurfacing with the new project The Accident Experiment in 2003.

Dalton Roraback has moved on to work in the I.T. industry and raising a family. He spends most of his time with wife, two sons, and posting on a small but popular website where he argues politics under the name Skinnyrumcakes.[2]

Most recently, Grammatrain has reunited and are recording a new album.[3] This album is expected to be thematically different from previous Grammatrain records since frontman Pete Stewart no longer considers himself a Christian.[1]

In early 2009 Grammatrain played two reunion shows. 1 in Seattle, and one in Germany. An ep with songs from the forth coming album was sold at both shows. In spring 2009 the ep was put on sale via www.grammatrain.net. It seems that the recording of the album is talking longer than they thought and the band put out the ep to tie fans over.
