Review
For a session at the Village Vanguard, pianist Earl Hines and his trio were joined part of the time by the great tenor Coleman Hawkins and trumpeter Roy Eldridge. But on this LP, the three giants only actually play together on a fine version of "Take the 'A' Train." Eldridge has "The Man I Love" and "Undecided" as his features (Hines is absent on the latter), Hawkins gets to roar on "Sweet Georgia Brown" and Hines and his trio play a lengthy "Grand Terrace Medley." The music is excellent but not as explosive as one might expect from these competitive players. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music GuideTracks
