Great Seal of Hong Kong
The Great Seal of Hong Kong was the seal used to give authority to official documents, granting Royal Assent in Hong Kong. The Governor was the keeper of the seal.
The Great Seal was stored in the basement of Government House.
At the midnight hour of 1st July 1997 when British Sovereignty over Hong Kong ended, a junior Executive Council official removed the Great Seal and formally defaced it with a ragged cross, using a chisel. It could never again be used to implement laws in Hong Kong.
