Hip-O's 2001 Greatest Hits collection pulls off a nifty trick by balancing J.T. Taylor's solo hits with duet numbers and sides he fronted with Kool & the Gang. So, while this technically isn't a retrospective of his solo career, this is what people looking for the best of Taylor should turn to, since it has his best performances, whether he's singing "Too Hot" and "Joanna" with Kool & the Gang, "All I Want Is Forever" with Regina Belle, or "Long Hot Summer Night," "Feel the Need," or "Baby I'm Back" by himself. Again, this shouldn't be seen as a retrospective of his solo recordings, but anybody wanting Taylor at his best should probably go here. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
