History
The Church of England parish church of Saint Peter was built in the 13th century and the bell tower was added in about 1300.[1] The architect H.R. Gough rebuilt the chancel arch in 1882.[1] In 2005 a new ring of six bells was hung in the tower.[2] St. Peter's parish is now part of the Chenderit benefice.[3]
Greatworth Manor House burned down in 1793, and only its ornate gatepiers remain.[1]
In the 19th century a branch of the Stratford on Avon and Midland Junction Railway was built past Greatworth, joining the Buckinghamshire Railway at Cockley Brake Junction 0.5 miles (800 m) south of the village. British Railways closed the branch line in the middle of the 20th century.
