Greek Fire: Source and Myth

  • Genre: History
  • Run Time: 56 minutes

Plot

This documentary (volume one of the Greek Fire series) examines the lasting influence of Ancient Greek tradition on modern thought. The program's first section, entitled "Source," explores the Greeks' perspective on the world and life and considers how those views have affected current Western ideas and self-perception. The second section, "Myth," takes a look at Greek myths and characters (including Atlas, Ulysses, Oedipus, the riddle of the Sphinx, the Labyrinth and Ariadne's thread) and discusses how these potent stories have been carried into modern outlooks on psychology and human mental processes. Special focus is placed on the work of Freud and Jung and the effects of ancient myths on the development of their famous theories. ~ Alice Duncan, All Movie Guide
