Biography

Green Apple Quick Step was born in Seattle and released a few upbeat post-grunge albums in the mid 1990s. After debuting with Wonderful Virus on Reprise-backed Medicine Records in 1994, Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard helped produce 1995's Reloaded. Gossard gave the band free use of his home studio, and later let frontman Ty Willman take lead vocal duties on the first single of Gossard's first solo album, Bayleaf. Willman and bassist/backup vocalist Mari Ann Braeden also worked Pearl Jam's Mike McCready in $10,000 Gold Chain. The band appeared on the soundtracks of Basketball Diaries and Cable Guy and recorded New Disaster with Columbia in 1998 before disbanding. Green Apple Quick Step (GAQS) was a post-grunge band from Seattle, Washington that released a few albums in the mid-1990s. They reached modest popularity worldwide through several tours. Several videos appeared on MTV, The video for the single "Dirty Water Ocean" was revered on Beavis and Butthead.

The original Tacoma, Washington neo-punk band called Inspector Luv and the Ride Me Babys included Tyler Willman (vocals), Steve Ross (guitar), Dan Kempthorne (guitar), Bob Martin (drums) and Eric Munday (bass). They released a numbered limited edition (700 copies) EP called Another World on purple vinyl. The Ride me Babies disbanded after the departure of bassist Munday. Tyler found out that Bassist/Vocalist MariAnn Braeden was interested in the job at the Vogue, (a local Seattle night club) and GAQS was born.

GAQS included frontman Tyler Willman, vocals; Mari Ann Braeden, bass and vocals; Bob Martin, Drums; replaced by Dain Hudson; Replaced by Geoff Reading, Danny Kempthorn, guitar; Steve Ross, Guitar; replaced by Dana Turner. The band's 1993 debut album Wonderful Virus was released on The Medicine Label (a sub-label of Warner Bros. Records).

Reloaded was released in 1995, with production help from Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam. (In exchange, Willman provided lead vocals on the first single from Gossard's first solo album, Bayleaf). Green Apple Quick Step did not release their final album, New Disaster with Columbia Records, but did appear on the soundtracks of "HomeGrown", Basketball Diaries (with "Dizzy"), and I Know What You Did Last Summer (with "Kid") before disbanding due to Willman's substance abuse problems.

GAQS toured with the likes of X, Stone Temple Pilots, Iggy Pop, Rage Against the Machine, Bad Brains, Tripping Daisy, and many others, Willman and Braeden worked with Mike McCready in $10,000 Gold Chain. Willman went on with Devilhead and a solo project, Calm Down Juanita.

GAQS guitarist Steve Ross, now more commonly known as Steve E. Nix, is a member of the Briefs, and recently started his own side project called Steve E. Nix and the Cute Lepers with other Briefs members Steve E. Kicks, formerly of Newtown Animals, and occasionally Chris Brief.
