(b London, Ont., 19 Nov 1936; d Nov 1992). Canadian painter and printmaker. He attended the Doon School of Art, Kitchener, Ontario, from June to October 1956, and the Ontario College of Art in Toronto (1957-60). He then returned to London, establishing a studio and joining with a number of other young artists living in the city to form a small but vital community: he founded a magazine, Region (nine issues, 1961-9), and with six other artists ran an artists' gallery, also called Region, from November 1962 to the end of 1963. His works of this period, sometimes linked to Pop art in their style and contemporary references, were often intimate in their subject-matter and unconventional in technique, as is the case with On the Bed (oil and stamp pad on hardboard, 1963; Vancouver, U. BC, Students' Un.).
