Griffin Guess (born on September 8, 1979, in San Diego, California) is an American music producer and talent manager. He owns Cartel Management and Cartel Records, and is married to model Marisa Miller.[1]

Career

In 1998, Guess started Machete, a creative services company that drove marketing and music videos. Two years later, he sold his company and joined Liberty Media as the creative director of Hollywood Digital. He soon became partners with many leading names in the recording and production industry, gaining access to numerous creative projects and media outlets.[2] He worked on media projects with artists such as Kanye West, Andre 3000, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Good Charlotte, Weezer, Eminem, Velvet Revolver, Common, TI, and Matisyahu.[3]

Guess worked as the creative director of Kanye West's albums Late Registration (2005) and Graduation (2007), and worked with Island Def Jam Music Group as the marketing director for Jay Z’s album, American Gangster (2007).[4]

Cartel, Inc.

In 2007, Guess founded Cartel Incorporated and soon after developed Cartel Management, a boutique management company representing models, athletes and musicians. Cartel Management's approach to talent management is to blend influential connections, with a grassroots mentality.[4]

By late 2007, Guess had befriended Steve Jobs, leading to an opportunity with iTunes. Shortly after, Guess formed Cartel Records, an independent label powered by iTunes, with physical distribution through Best Buy and Target.[4]

Through Cartel Records, he executive produced America's Got Talent season two runner-up Cas Haley's self-titled debut[4], as well as alternative rock group KAZAK's debut album, Hyde Street.[5] Guess produced the album First Impressions by rapper Really Doe.

Personal life

Guess married Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covermodel and Victoria's Secret Angel Marisa Miller on April 15, 2006.
