Guanacastepene A, or
((1R,2R,6S,8aR,10aR,E)-5-formyl-6-hydroxy-1-isopropyl-8a,10a-dimethyl-3-oxo-1,2,3,6,7,8,8a,9,10,10a-decahydrobenzo[f]azulen-2-yl
acetate), is a compound showing promising antibiotic activity. It was extracted with
hexane from a Costa Rican fungus (CR115), found on the branches of the Daphnopsis Americana tree and purified by chromatography.
