Guaviare River

 

River, central and eastern Colombia. It rises in the Andes Mountains in south-central Colombia and is known as the Guayabero in its upper course. It meanders northeast before joining the Orinoco River on the border of Colombia and Venezuela after a course of 963 mi (1,549 km). Frequent rapids obstruct navigation.

The Guaviare is a tributary of the Orinoco located in Colombia.

The Guaviare has its source in two other rivers, the Ariari and the Guayabero, which in turn have their own sources in the eastern part of the Andes. At 1,497 km (907 miles) long, it is the longest river on the Orinoco and is navigable for 630 km (391 miles) of its total length. The Guaviare is considered the border between the Llanos and the Amazon Rainforest. Its main tributary is the Inírida River.
