Gueno's Eye Becomes the Sun

African Mythology: Gueno's Eye Becomes the Sun

Fulani/Senegal

In the pantheon of gods, Gueno is the creator.

The mountains were initially soft, but Gueno, the god of creation, and eternal, gave the power to the one-eyed king, the sun, to harden the mountains under the intensity of his gaze. At the beginning of time, the sun was Gueno's eye. Then, when the creation was finished, Gueno removed it from its socket to produce the one-eyed monarch, since his single eye was sufficient to see everything that occurs on earth and to heat and light it as well.
