(b Montreal, 12 Oct 1933). Canadian painter and theorist. He attended evening classes from 1948 to 1951 at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Montreal, before studying briefly under the Canadian painters Marian Scott (b 1906) and Gordon Webber (1909-65) at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts School of Art from 1951. From 1955 to 1957 he ran Galerie l'Actuelle in Montreal, which was devoted exclusively to showing abstract art. Molinari's rigorous pursuit for over 30 years of the essence of painterly structure had a major influence on art in Quebec, substantially developing the terms of its particular modernist character.
