guidon bearer

The individual designated to carry the the guidon authorized to identify companies, detachments, and separate platoons of thirty or more personnel. The guidon bearer plays a key role in dismounted drill by signaling visually the commander's oral instructions and by acting as a reference point for alignment of the unit.
