Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg (Given names: Guillaume Jean Joseph Marie; born November 11, 1981, Luxembourg), is the eldest child of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. A descendant of the House of Nassau, founded in 1093, which has ruled Luxembourg since 1890, Guillaume has been heir apparent to the crown of Luxembourg since his father's accession in 2000 and bears the titles of Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Hereditary Prince of Nassau, Prince of Bourbon-Parma. His godparents are Princess Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg and Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg. If he succeeds to the grand ducal throne as expected, he will reign as the fifth of his name, Guillaume V (or William V when anglicized). Guillaume himself is godparent to his youngest brother Sébastien, to Prince Emmanuel of Belgium and to Princess Ariane of the Netherlands.
Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume's education includes Lycée Robert-Schumann in Luxembourg; Beau Soleil and Institut Le Rosey boarding schools in Switzerland; and Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Camberley, England. He began his higher education studies in the United Kingdom where he studied at the University of Durham and Brunel University, both in England, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in International Politics, and is now continuing his studies in Switzerland where he is studying Geopolitics.
