Guillaume Le Heurteur
(fl 1530-45). French composer. In 1545 he was a canon and preceptor of the choirboys at St Martin, Tours. Virtually all his surviving works, which include four masses, two Magnificats, 21 motets and 23 chansons, were published in Paris or Lyons (1530-45). His masses are based on pre-existent material; his sacred music is in varied contrapuntal style and reflects the French predilection for harmony. The four-part chansons are freely composed and, in their short phrases, concise structure, frequent cadences and melodic stereotypes, follow Parisian chanson style.
