(b St Gall, 11 Jan 1909; d Berna, 25 Aug 1989). Danish composer. He studied at the Copenhagen Conservatory (1936-7) and with Rosenberg. His first works were freely atonal, but in 1948 he went to Paris, and under the influence of Messiaen and Webern wrote the first Danish serial piece, his Cello Suite (1950). His later works comprise orchestral, chamber and piano pieces.
