Gustav Mahler Conducting Prize
The Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition is run triennially by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. It accepts applications from conductors worldwide who are at the start of their conducting careers. The inaugural competition in 2004 was won by Venezuela's Gustavo Dudamel.
The finalists for the second competition, held on Saturday, April 28, 2007, were:
- 1st Prize (not awarded)
- 2nd Prize (€ 10,000 -) Shi-Yeon Sung, South Korea
- 3rd Prize (€ 5,000 - ) Benjamin Shwartz, USA
- 4th Prize (€ 5,000 - ) Ewa Strusińska, Poland
- Special Encouragement Award: Yoel Gamzou, USA
