A supracondylar fracture of the elbow, most frequent in children. It results from excessive extension or flexion of the elbow (common movements in gymnastics) causing an indirect trauma to be transmitted through the radius and ulna against the distal humerus. Gymnast's fracture is often accompanied by injuries to the brachial artery and ulnar nerve.
