Hēraeum

Hēraeum ‘temple of Hera’, the most famous being that in Argos, 3 km. (2 miles) south-east of Mycenae. An early wooden temple there was destroyed by fire in 423 BC; the new temple, containing the famous gold and ivory statue by Polycleitus, was built c.416 BC.
