Hēsychius

Hēsychius (probably fifth century AD), Alexandrian Greek lexicographer, whose lexicon is known from one badly preserved fifteenth-century manuscript, itself a considerable abridgement of the original work. Even so it is a valuable aid for the study of Greek dialects and inscriptions, and it often preserves correct readings which have been replaced in Greek literary texts by easier synonyms.
