Hadrach

Bible Guide: Hadrach

The name of a town and country in Aram mentioned only once in the Bible (Zech 9:1). It is heard of for the first time in the inscription of Zachar, king of Hamath (c. 800 B.C.), and then reappears in the Assyrian documents of the 8th century B.C., which mention a satrapy called Hatarikka. In 738 B.C. it was conquered by Tiglath-Pileser III. The prophecy of Zechariah seems to refer to the great revolt against Assyria which took place in 720 B.C., in which Hadrach joined with Israel, Hamath and the Phoenician and Philistine cities. Its exact location is not known.
