A term designating the third and final division of the Hebrew Scriptures, the "Writings". The Hebrew Bible, whose order differs from the sequence of most English Bibles (which instead follow the Greek) includes in this section: Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra-Nehemiah and I-II Chronicles.
The Hagiographa was the last part of the OT to be canonized, the status of some books still being debated in the late 1st century A.D. The NT does not refer to the Hagiographa as a group, although the normal designation of the OT scriptures as "the Law and the Prophets" appears once as "the Law of Moses and the Prophets, and the Psalms" (Luke 24:44).
