She sang in early music groups at universities in Chicago and Berkeley, showing distinction in 15th-century music; in Europe she sang widely in Paris, London and the Low Countries, making her operatic début in Brussels as Monteverdi's Drusilla (1979). She made many recordings of Charpentier, Couperin and Handel, with René Jacobs and Emma Kirkby, and recorded Schubert songs with fortepiano. She is noted for her pure-toned, spirited and stylish singing.
