Biography

Debbie Hunseder and Stephanie Callahan are a couple of very talented guitarist, singers, and songwriters who make up the duo known simply as Halcyon. The two have been performing together since meeting at a party in 1989. As soon as the pair did one song together, they knew they had found the perfect harmony match. Halcyon has appeared at clubs across the United States, even performing on cruise ships, increasing its fan base year by year. In 1993 the duo released an independent debut album, I'm Naked and I'm Going to Paris. It was followed two years later by Slightly Confusing to Strangers. In 1998 Halcyon completed work on a third album, Two Bars Short of a Hit. Hunseder and Callahan released a forth recording for 2000, Separately Together. That last title seems fitting, since the duo doesn't write together. They each contribute their own individual songs to the albums. Halcyon has been around for more than a decade, they have opened for artists like Lisa Loeb, KoKo Taylor, Little Feat, SubDudes, Joan Baez, and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Halcyon has also won a number of awards for Best Acoustic Act, Best Independent Release, Best Pop/Rock Band, and others. Some of the tracks fans can sample on Halcyon's recordings are "Shred of Me," "Hey No," "Under the Same Sun," "Can't Have Everything," "Full Moon Murmur," and "Margaret Says." You'll even find the "Star Spangled Banner" on Separately Together. Hunseder explained that the tune was placed on the album for the ability it seems to possess to bring Americans together, no matter their color, sexual preference, or age. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide

"Halcyon" is a trance song by British DJ and trance artist Chicane, pseudonym of Nick Bracegirdle. It is the fifth track of his second album Behind the Sun and also part of the "No Ordinary Morning" / "Halcyon" double A-side CD single – the third released from the album. The single reached number 28 in the UK Singles Chart.

Many confuse it with the Orbital song of the same name.

In an otherwise mellow album, "Halcyon" is perhaps the most fast paced and upbeat track and thus a staple for club-goers. Disco fans also point out the similarity between this track and the popular Italo disco track "Give Me Love".

The title refers to Halcyon, a genus of kingfishers (specifically, those of the Halcyonidae family) in scientific classification, as is evident by the opening moments of the song, where a kingfisher's call is heard before then tempo starts to pick up and the song begins.

In October 2008, Nick released a best of album which included a reworked version of this song.
