For those who want the buzz without the bitter taste, there is Halewood International, maker of sugary, bubbly alcoholic drinks. In the UK Halewood International annually sells some 40 million bottles of Lambrini, a fizzy pear drink described by one retailer as the illicit drink of British housewives. In its bottling plant near Liverpool, Halewood churns out a variety of alcopops, designed to be drunk by twentysomethings who don't like the taste of alcohol. Alco-popularity has led to a string of successes like the firm's Caribbean Twist and Red Square offerings as well as forays into the spirits and wine market. Halewood International is owned by its chairman, John Halewood.

Halewood is a suburb of Liverpool, Merseyside, England and is in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley. The district lies at Liverpool's southeastern boundary, bordered by the suburbs of Hunts Cross and Woolton.

Historically a part of Lancashire, at the 2001 Census, the population of the civil parish was 20,309.[1] The combined population of Halewood's four local government wards was 29,217.[2][3][4][5]

Halewood railway station opened in 1988.

Halewood is home to a massive car production facility which today produces the Jaguar X-Type and the Land Rover Freelander. There is also the Dista Factory which produces pharmaceuticals. Everton Football Club have built their new training ground and youth academy on the edge of Halewood called Finch Farm.

Parts of Halewood struggle with high crime, anti-social behaviour, high unemployment levels and poor housing. To date, various attempts at regeneration of this area have been largely unsuccessful, mainly due to lack of investment. However, there is renewed hope with new plans for redevelopment of the "Leathers Lane" shopping area. Leathers Lane and Torrington Drive are such areas.

However, other parts of Halewood are much more affluent. New housing developments such as Bailey's Reach have created houses in the top range of prices where the old sports centre, Bridgefield Forum was before it was knocked down and replaced with Halewood Sports Centre in a new location. Other estates such as Okell Drive and the estates nearby the original Halewood village are also thriving. The areas largest small business is Alpha Taxis (previously Halewood Taxis) and its largest employer is the Jaguar factory.

Steve McMahon, the former Liverpool FC midfielder, was born in Halewood.[6]
