half-header

(mining engineering) A large cap piece; used by sawing a header in two and placing, generally, two timbers under the half header on one side of the haulage, with the end extending over the haulage.

A brick, or cement block, either cut longitudinally into two equal parts or cut into four parts by cutting these halves transversely; used to close the work at the end of a course.
