Development

Halo: Reach was announced on June 8, 2009, at the Microsoft E3 2009 press conference.[4] A trailer was shown and details were released including setting and timeline. It was announced that an invitation to the open multiplayer beta of the game will be available in Halo 3: ODST.[5] Reach will be the last Halo game developed by original Halo developer Bungie. Future Halo games will be overseen by Microsoft subsidiary 343 Industries.[6]

Leak

On November 5, 2009, several video game websites reported that several fuzzy screenshots, supposedly from Reach, were leaked on the Major League Gaming forums. These screenshots allegedly showed a new needle-firing carbine, a 12-round rifle, and a new HUD showing the names and current health of squad mates. Microsoft, owner of the Halo IP, declined to comment.[7]
