Han Peng (simplified Chinese: 韩鹏; traditional Chinese: 韓鵬; pinyin: Hán Péng; born September 13, 1983 in Jinan, Shandong) is a Chinese striker who currently plays for Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League and the Chinese national football team.
Club career
A product of the Shandong Luneng youth team Han Peng would make his senior club debut on March 10, 2002 against Sichuan Dahe. This was followed by his first league goal on March 23, 2002 in a game vs Chongqing Lifan. Gradually establishing himself within the Shandong Luneng team for several seasons it wasn't until Han Peng was partnered with Li Jinyu during the 2005 Chinese Super League season that he started to show his prolific nature as a striker when he scored 7 league goals[1]. This was followed by another 10 league goals that help Shandong win the 2006 Chinese Super League title as well as the Chinese FA Cup[2]. While the next season would see Han Peng have his most productive season when he scored 13 league goals he was unable to help Shandong retain the league title[3]. The 2008 Chinese Super League season was to personally to be a disappointing campaign for Han Peng when he found himself injured throughout most the season, however he was still able to help Shandong win the league title.
International career
Han Peng would make his international debut in a friendly against Switzerland on June 3, 2006 in a 4-1 defeat[4]. Despite this result Han Peng would quickly become an integral part Zhu Guanghu's squad that achieved qualification for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup and even scoring his first goal against Iraq in the process on November 15, 2006 in a 1-1 draw[5]. During the tournament Han Peng found himself playing as a lone striker with fellow striking partner Li Jinyu completely dropped from the squad[6]. While he was able to score 2 goals within the tournament he could not help China having a disastrous campaign and getting kicked out of the group stages. A new manager in Vladimir Petrović was brought in for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign and he still considered Han Peng as China's best striker. While he played in several games throughout the campaign he was unable to score in any games and saw China unable to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
