Hangin' Tough

Album Review: Hangin' Tough

Review

Good songs collected by New Kids mastermind Maurice Starr highlight this smash, including "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," "You Got It (The Right Stuff)," "Please Don't Go Girl," and the title track. Tight, warm, even soulful harmony on the ballads. ~ Dan Heilman & Bil Carpenter, All Music Guide

Hangin' Tough is the second album from teen pop act New Kids on the Block. After having failed to garner attention with their debut album, this too was released to only modest fanfare — however, the album slowly picked up steam in the closing months of 1988 and would eventually skyrocket the group to fame into the new year.

By the end of 1989, Hangin' Tough had become the #1 album in America, spun off five top ten hits (two #1 singles), went 8x platinum in the US and ended up selling 16 million copies worldwide. In January 1990, the album won up two American Music Awards for 'Favorite Pop/Rock Album' and 'Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group.' Hangin' Tough also gave the New Kids On The Block the recognition as the first teen act to garner five top ten hits from just a single album.
