Hanumatpresaka Swami (Huber Hutchin Robinson,[1] born 12 January 1948, Guam) is a Vaishnava swami[2] and a spiritual leader for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).[3][4] He's known as a Vaishnava scholar, continuously traveling, lecturing on classical Indian literature and philosophy.[5][4][6][7][1][8] He is currently General Secretary for NIOS, the “North American Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies”,[9][6][1][4][10][8] and Visiting Professor with IECOO, the “Institute for Oriental and Occidental Classical Studies”, Ricardo Palma University, Lima, Peru.[5][8] He is also a member of the faculty at Bhaktivedanta College[5][11] where he teaches on the subject of the text Bhaktirasamrita-sindhu.[5] The Hindu Studies scholar, Radhika Ramana Dasa is a disciple of his.[5]

Hanumatpreshaka Swami was born on January 12, 1948 on the island of Guam and grew up in California. After finishing Encina High School in 1966,[12] he entered the University of California, graduating in 1970 with a first place prize in Psychology and minor studies in Biology and Electrical Engineering.[5] He then began Doctoral studies at Northwestern University in Chicago while also participating in the famous "Second City Improvisational Theater Troupe", one of America's three best improvisational theater troupes. Soon he became convinced that Western knowledge was lacking much that might be augmented by Oriental wisdom. His mentor, Donald T. Campbell, President of the American Psychology Association, agreed so he then headed East obtaining a black belt in Okinawan karate, and then receiving initiation and taking vows as a brahmacari, novice monk, from A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1974.[13][5] He continued in this Indian tradition taking vows as a sannyasin, life long monk in 1984,[5] and was approved to accept his own disciples in 1994.[5]

Besides his deep internal austerity and study since 1990 he has also developed a program of global lecturing and travel. This has included work as associate director of the “Bhaktivedanta Institute”[14][6][15] and the “Ranganiketana Manipur Cultural Arts Troupe”[16][6][15] which organized two “World Congresses for the Synthesis of Science and Religion”, Bombay, 1985, Kolkatta, 1997,[14] and international cultural tours with artists and musicians from the remote Himalayan kingdom of Manipur.[16] These included participation of Nobel Laureates such as George Wald, Charles Townes, Sir John Eccles, Arch-Bishop Paulo Mar Gregorius (President of World Council of Churches), the Dalai Lama and many others.

March 1999 he was the Chief Guest for Calcutta University's criticial "National Seminar on Science and Technology in Ancient India". November 2004 and July 2005 he was principle speaker at the "National Conference on Psychotherapy", Caesar Vallejo University, Tujillo, Peru,[17][9] and “International Congress on Psychotherapy”, National College of Psychologists, Chiclayo, Peru.

His interests turn more and more toward individual education in techniques of introspection and meditation although he still keeps an active schedule of lecturing, seminars and educational development.[18]

With San Marcos University, the oldest university in the Western Hemisphere, NIOS is a co-organizer for the “Bharatiya Sanskriti: A Festival of Classical Indian Culture”.[1][19] The Festival is being produced in Lima from 2005-2007.[1] Sponsors and participants include many prominent universities, Ambassador of India and renown scholars from four continents.[19] It includes a Symposium on Oriental Social Philosophy and an Orientation to Traditional Science in the Orient which are expected to help significantly in developing an enlightened comprehension of man, nature and life.
