Hanun

Bible Guide: Hanun

1. The son of Nahash king of Ammon, Hanun ascended to the Ammonite throne upon his father's death (II Sam 10:1). King David sent him a message of condolence but Hanun insulted and mocked the messengers (II Sam 10:3-4). David then made war against him; his captain Joab captured the king's capital, Rabbah (I Chr 20:1), and brought Hanun's crown to David. King David then appointed Hanun's brother Shobi to rule in his stead in Rabbah (II Sam 17:27).

2. Sixth son of Zalaph, he was among those who repaired the wall at the time of Nehemiah and is probably identical with the other Hanun mentioned earlier (Neh 3:13) as having repaired the Valley Gate.
