Hardy Machia (born Harland Arthur Macia III[1] June 16, 1969) was the Libertarian Party candidate for governor of Vermont in 2004,[2] finishing 4th of 5 with 0.8% of the vote. In 1999, he entered the selectboard of Grand Isle, Vermont. In 2001, he became a Grand Juror, and the following year became the Grand Isle Justice of the Peace. Machia is involved in the youth rights movement, particularly the struggle to lower the drinking age. He is currently the Secretary of The National Youth Rights Association's Vermont chapter.
Machia presently serves as a regional representative for the Libertarian National Committee. In 2006 Machia ran for the Vermont House of Representatives Grand Isle-Chittenden-1 receiving 1,339 votes for 18.57% of the vote and a fourth place finish (last) [1]. He was one of the early developers of third-party software for the Apple Newton, and currently develops for Palm OS and iPhone.[3]
